The logo is an outline of Iolanthe House with two large letter M on either side. First M = Midwifery:
Second M = Museum. The logo has been used to remind midwives of one of the milestones in the regulation of midwifery practice.
Iolanthe House was the home of the Central Midwives Board (CMB) from 1958 until 1983 when the CMB was replaced by the United Kingdom Central Council (UKCC) for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visit
Iolanthe House was the final home of the Central Midwives Board (CMB).
Location was 39, Harrington Gardens, London SW7. This house is now a private residence.
Some midwives will remember the dining room on the ground floor of Iolanthe House. Where above the door were the words "ALL HOPE ABANDON, YE WHO ENTER HERE"
The entrance hall of Iolanthe House was dominated by a huge fireplace with an ornate mantle.
Iolanthe House was sold following the end of the Central Midwives Board and is now a private residence.
The Midwifery Museum would like to thank Mr Sam Clarke for creating the logo
