Welcome To Midwives oral histories

Aim: to record and document oral histories of midwives and maternity care assistants to illustrate the diversity of roles and celebrate midwifery

Objectives : to record midwives talking about their roles and experiences.

Additional Information

Guidelines: each midwife will use a basic format and style and will record their story. No more than 300 words for each story. The closing date has been extended to December 31st 2021


Instructions to Oral Historians:

  • Using the Midwifery Museum format and noting the word limit write / type your story into a word document
  • Ensure that you have made your name, role and experiences clear and that you have dated the final document.
  • Record your oral history using a standard voice recorder.
  • You may also wish to add a photo (old or new) to your written or word processed history
  • Submit your oral history (written document and your voice recording) to the Midwifery Museum along with a signed copy of the consent form 
  • submit to curator@midwiferymuseum.org.uk


The Midwifery Museum Basic Format Oral History Project (OHP) suggested  written and spoken formats:
